Trouble at Bananas at Large
p2p news / p2pnet: Some customers of famed musical instrument and equipment firm Bananas at Large may have had online credit card information stolen, they’ve been told, somewhat belatedly.
“The warning, which came more than a month after someone broke into Bananas.com, was delivered Wednesday after The Associated Press inquired about the breach,” says AP. “The San Rafael-based company said none of their celebrity clients was among the 274 people receiving the warning,” delivered yesterday.
Bananas at Large boasts Dave Matthews, the San Francisco Symphony, Todd Rundgren and Jefferson Airplane/Starship among its customers.
“The breach was discovered after an individual identified only by the screen name SmookeR advertised in an Internet chat room the sale of compromised credit card information,” says AP.
“Over a week’s time beginning in late February, SmookeR released the names, addresses, phone numbers and credit card numbers of at least 31 people who had recently made orders on Bananas.com.
Evidence of the intrusion was emailed to a Bananas.com employee on March 1 but, “The employee was on vacation at the time and never got the message,” adds the story.
