First Winny, now Ozutekku
p2p news / p2pnet: Isamu Kaneko, the Tokyo University assistant researcher who in 2004 was arrested "on suspicion of violating copyright laws" after creating Winny, Japan’s first p2p application, has made another file sharing program.
It’s to, "safely distribute films and other products over the Internet, lawyers defending him told the Kyoto District Court on Monday," says the Mainichi Daily News.
Kaneko is now on trial and, "Lawyers said the new software Kaneko developed, called ‘Ozutekku’ in Japanese, places restrictions on the parties uploading the software and contains administration technology to delete problem files, as well as a billing system," says the story.
"This reportedly allows information leaks and copyright violations to be prevented."
The Mainichi Daily News says according to reports, Ozutekku was developed together with a domestic "IT-related business" to, "sell movies, games and other new products over the Internet. Plans have reportedly been made to release the software as early as mid-May."
