My MP3 players works with mwf and mp3 files. I triedlooking for mp3 files to buy and was stuck with what I could get on LimeWire. France should not force Apple to release DRM spec, but rather should have simply legalized reverse engineering and allow the resulting technology to be used by the competition.

I do think it is a foolish practice to force people who are willing to buy music into downloading it for free. The media cartel's monopoly on sound and video is in extreme danger. Their means of control has been destroyed, so noe they are trying to set up a new method of hanging onto their monopoly. This new way is via the "Tiered Internet" service level. If they cannot compete, then they will figure out a way to throttle the competition. Fortunately, technology has developed enough that average people can now build their own network infrastructure and get by without the local telcos.

The only thing shocking about France's move is that it's waking up consumers to the plundering that's been going on through controlled distribution channels and the attempt to continue doing it through technology. Like a bunch of sheep begging to be slaughtered, foolish Apple enthusiasts are crying foul :-/
