Goodbye Google

p2p news / p2pnet: I’ve had quite a few emails asking me why I was still using Google search after the equine excreta I’ve experienced over Google Adsense.

For reasons it flatly refuses to reveal, Google accused p2pnet of generating false clicks.

The income from Google Nonsense was pitiful and if that’s general for non-Biggie sites, one can understand why some people might want to try to improve things.

But that wasn’t the case with p2pnet. I hadn’t in any way tried to fake clicks and Google’s allegations were, and still are, horse shit. And they still owe me whatever was due when they suddenly, and without warning or without offering to explore the situation, blocked both the Adsense and Google search (which also paid a trivial amount) functions.

I replaced the ‘paid’ search with the ordinary Google search because I know a lot of readers and researchers use it to mine p2pnet stories.

DaBlade was among those who wondered,”Why do you still have Google searching your website?”

And he had a solution. “Use Scroogle and help protect your users’ privacy ;)”.

So thanks to DaBlade and the folks who made the Scroogle scraper, Google has GONE !

Scroogle is based in San Antonio, Texas (anywhere near you, Chris? ; ) and it, too, could suffer Google, “blocking, throttling, or breaking,” which is, “unfortunately is legal if they decide to stop us. But the longer Scroogle exists and the more our traffic grows, the stronger our statements become.

“We cannot survive many more months without at least one more server, even if Google leaves us alone,” says the site. “While we could apply for foundation grants, our experience tells us that foundations are about ten years behind on Internet and other high-tech issues. Any funding proposals we send out would strike them as bizarre and incomprehensible. It’s not worth our time to send out proposals to foundations.

“That leaves us asking lots of Scroogle users for small contributions. Searchers who prefer Scroogle are making a unique statement about important issues. Nothing else we know of is making the same points as effectively.”

So search in safety. For now. And if you want to use the code on your site, go here.

Meanwhile, just in case, if anyone else has non-Google search code I can use as a back up, please send it along.

Cheers! And thanks …
