Apple turns down iPod volume
p2p news / p2pnet: Following a report that more than half of American high school students say they have at least one symptom of hearing loss, and many of their problems are directly attributable to iPods and other portable music players; and, a lawsuit alleging iPods can cause problems, Apple is turning down the volume.
Or at least, it’s released a fix called the 1.1.1 software update for the iPod nano and fifth generation iPod.
It’ll allow people who want to preserve their hearing to set a maximum volume limit.
The fix also allows parents to assign a combination, “to prevent the setting from being changed”.
Volume Limit works with any headphone or accessory plugged into the iPod headphone jack as well as the iPod Radio Remote, says Apple.
