Baidu No 1 in China
p2p news / p2pnet: Between them, Google and Chinese search engine Baidu dominate the Chinese market with a combined 90% market share between the two companies, says a recent study by iResearch quoted in Search Engine Journal.
And Google has a piece of Baidu, said to have become popular on the back of mp3 downloads and which last year was found guilty of copyright infringement.
Baidu has 56.8% with Google at 32.8%.
But iResearch, “also says that Google popularity slipped over the past couple of years (probably due to censorship or blocking) before reentering the Chinese market with the licensed & locally based Google China,” says Search Engine News.
“Yahoo and its related searching web-sites only have a market share of less than 5 percent, said iResearch,” says state news agency Xinhua, adding:
” According to the iResearch report, China’s searching users reached 97.06 million last year, accounting for 87.4 percent of all the netizens in the country.
“The research institution predicted that the number will rise to above 100 million this year which will be 88.1 percent of the netizens.”
