Apple’s XP dual boot app
p2p news / p2pnet: The public beta of Apple’s Boot Camp to allow Intel-based Macs to run Windows XP is out today.
Better late than never ;p
Blanka and Narf are already $13,854 wealthier with their dual boot application, thanks to Colin Nederkoorn down in Houston, Texas. Their version has been available since last month.
Meanwhile, "Available as a download beginning today, Boot Camp allows users with a Microsoft Windows XP installation disc to install Windows XP on an Intel-based Mac, and once installation is complete, users can restart their computer to run either Mac OS X or Windows XP," says Apple proudly."
Boot Camp will be included in Leopard, the next major release of Mac OS X, it says.
So does this mean Steve and Bill are now pals?
Perish the very thought!
"Apple has no desire or plan to sell or support Windows," Apple adds hastily. But, "many customers have expressed their interest to run Windows on Apple’s superior hardware now that we use Intel processors," says Philip Schiller, senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing with a straight face.
The public beta of Boot Camp is downloadable at www.apple.com/macosx/bootcamp as, “preview software licensed for use on a trial basis for a limited time”.
A trial would be for a limited time, wouldn’t it? But Apple doesn’t say for how long, or by what means, the trial is limited.
Meanwhile, there’s always Blanka and Narf.
Go here for the Apple’s dual boot, for which you’ll need to supply your email addie and system information.
