China’s 8 Net Honors, 8 Shames
p2p news / p2pnet: Shades of Mao Tse Tung, 14 web sites in China, Yahoo among them, are to promote and implement ‘The Eight Honors and Eight Shames’ of the Net industry as voiced by Chinese president Hu Jintao.
The idea is to put forward proposals, “regarding the healthy management of their online domains,” says ChinaTechNews.
The 14 companies are Qianlong.com, Sohu.com, Sina.com, Netease, Tom.com, China.com, Baidu.com, Ynet, Zhongsou.com, Xilu.com, Xici.net, Yahoo, Hexun and Daqi.com.
“The websites will also work to create an active and harmonious online environment and voluntarily resist content that is ethically wrong and against Chinese national virtues,” adds the story.
Wonder what Yahoo’s contribution to the ’shame’ section will be?
Yahoo Hong Kong Holdings gave Chinese authorities information which led directly the arrest and imprisonment of Chinese Yahoo user Shi Tao, says pro-democracy legislator and lawyer Albert Ho.
