The Beatles go online
p2p news / p2pnet: Speaking of The Beatles, their Long and Winding Road has finally led them to the Net.
The Fab Four’s catalog is to be made available for download via corporate music sites, says E-Online.
The news came during testimony in Apple Corps trademark lawsuit against Apple Computers and, "We’re remastering the whole Beatles catalog, just to make it sound brighter and better and getting proper booklets to go with each of the packages," Apple Corps managing director Michael Aspinall is quoted as saying.
"A rep for London-based Apple Corps has confirmed the company is in talks with various Internet music services, but said there was no firm timetable" says the story.
Will Beatles tunes ultimately show up on iTunes? Even though iTunes is no more than a loading bay for iPod, it’s still the only game in town as far as corporate online sales are concerned.
Many, if not most, Beatles songs have been unofficially online for many moons.
Apple Corps is owned by Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, John Lennon’s widow Yoko Ono and the estate of George Harrison.
Meanwhile, it was revealed yesterday that a new Beatles album is in the offing for a Cirque du Soleil show.
