Opera 9 beta now online
p2p news / p2pnet: Opera Software, the company that first came up with tabs, has released the first public Beta of Opera 9, featuring support for BitTorrent in its new commercial form, a content blocker and thumbnail previews of tabbed sites.
Other new features in Opera 9 include:
- Widgets – Small Web applications. Any Web developer can create their own Widgets and share them, regardless of operating system, says Opera.
- Improved rich text editing.
- Site-specific preferences.
Opera has remained a distant third in browsing market share, says Ars Technica, and, "Most web statistics sites, such as TheCounter.com, peg Opera’s share of the browsing public at around 1 percent.
"Nevertheless, those who fall in that single percent are often huge fans of their browser of choice, and with some good reasons.
"Opera has always been one of the speedier browsers, winning hands-down in a recent Javascript speed test, and it also comes with a svelte disk space and RAM footprint."
Opera 9 runs on Windows, Macintosh, Linux, Solaris and FreeBSD.
