U of Texas records hacked
p2p news / p2pnet: Close to 200,000 electronic University of Texas’ McCombs School of Business records with Social Security numbers and "possibly biographical material of students, alumni, faculty and staff" have been hacked, it says.
"We have notified the attorney general and his Internet enforcement unit and are doing everything we can to protect those whose information has been accessed unlawfully," states university president William Powers Jr.
Last year, "Former student Christopher Phillips was found guilty of accessing protected computers without authorization and possession of stolen Social Security numbers," says the school. "It was determined that the information accessed from the university’s databases was not disseminated or used to anyone’s detriment."
An information call centre is open as of today at (512) 475-9020 and (866) 657-9400, and anyojne who’s worried that he or she may be affected can email the school.
