Warner Video triple price discs

p2p news / p2pnet: “Warner Home Video actually believes that people with a standard DVD player will pay double the price for a video that will give them the option of playing the same disc on a HD DVD player at some stage in the future if they decide to buy one.”

But why not? The ‘entertainment’ industry takes it as God-given that CCCs (cash-cow ‘consumers’) will consume just about anything and everything that’s put in front of them, paying through the nose for privilege.

The quote comes from iT Wire’s Stan Beer who earlier says, “Dual format video discs sound nice in theory but in practice the idea will likely go down in history with such marvels as the steam powered automobile and telephone voice recognition systems that put you through to an operator.”

He concludes:

“The big question, however, is what happens when Blu-ray players come on the market? Perhaps Warner is already scratching its head, trying figure out whether it should develop a DVD/Blu-ray, HD DVD/Blu-ray or perhaps somehow come up with a three sided disc – for which it will charge triple price.”

The thing about HD is that it only really becomes needed if you have a huge TV, like an LCD projector TV. When things get to that scale, then to keep the resolution most people are used to the HD will be needed.
Right now most people I know have grown up with and have, at the most, 32 inch TV’s , and DVD quality looks tolerable at that scale. HD won’t really catch on until a lot more people have much bigger screens – which may be some time.

HD is not a priority in my home. The cost is too high, and besides, how many times can I watch the same movie …

  3. Reader's Write Says:

If the disc has trailers and ads, forget it.

  4. Reader's Write Says:

Just download a de-aacs’d version of the movie (unless you like HDCP, ACCS, and CSS and are a brainwashed zombie of the MPAA)

To quote from a Chipmunks album of long ago.

Dave (Seville): Well boys, the record is just about over. Say goodbye to everyone for now.

    Simon: Goodbye!

    Theodore: Bye-Bye!

Alvin: Can we do some more on the edge, Dave?

    Dave: ALVIN !!!!!!!!!!
