Is Apple playing musical chairs?
p2p news / p2pnet: Has Apple decided on a major shift for video iPod manufacturing? Macworld Daily News says that might be the case.
It quotes China’s Economic Daily News as saying Quanta was to made the devices for Apple. But seemingly, that’s no longer so.
The story has Korea’s DigiTimes saying the order “has been shifted” to an unspecified manufacturer, and that Quanta had, “refused comment on the news”.
And, “In recent days, Apple’s long-term iPod chip partner PortalPlayer revealed that Apple, its main customer, had not chosen to use its technologies in some future iPods,” adds Macworld Daily News.

Update: “Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. on Wednesday (April 26) claimed that the company grabbed a major MP3 chip design win at Apple Computer Inc., at the expense of PortalPlayer Inc,” says EE Times. “An executive from Samsung said the company won the MP3 media processor business for Appleās next-generation iPods. Samsung, along with other vendors, also supplies NAND flash memory chips for the iPod.”
