Cheap Windows for Africa
p2p news / p2pnet: Microsoft is targeting Africa with a cheap version of Windows, says the Seattle Times, quoting a Microsoft statement released in Nigeria.
Nonetheless, “for a country like Nigeria where more than 70 percent live on less than a dollar a day, the new system may well be for the rich only,” the story has Zubby Opene, a Nigerian economist, saying.
However, in 1998, speaking of introducing Microsoft product to China via counterfeits, “They’ll get sort of addicted,” said Gates of the Chinese, “and then we’ll somehow figure out how to collect sometime in the next decade.”
Similar products are already available in 83 countries from Latin America to Asia, says the story.
