i meant to also mention that because a lot of dvd recorders and dvrs are coming down in price, it's not so difficult to edit out any ads. unfortunately, if philips and tivo have their way, US viewers will be hobbled by broadcast flags, drm, and the inability to change channels when an ad comes on and not be able to edit out recorded ads.

in a way i agree with you. but i guess i sort of have the best of both worlds between p2p and the fact that most tv stations (state-run ones) here do not edit or censor films or tv shows for nudity, language or violence.. nor do they have commercial breaks. ads come between shows and only seldom is there an ad break during a film. if there is, it lasts only a minute or two, and then that's the only ad break until the end of the film.

some private channels have adopted the american way of chopping up films and shows to please their sponsors, but i don't watch those channels.

Its not just US shows that are delayed. While US viewers are watching LAST YEARS Dr. Who shows on the S-F channel (loaded with ads, banners, overlays etc), internet downloaders are watching THIS YEARS shows, sans interuptions. After getting used to commercial free, banner free, logofree, cut-free 40 minute shows, I'd never go back to cable. Dont know if US versions of BBC show the new eps but I think I still prefer the downloads I can watch whenever I please.

I live in Portugal where the broadcast "delay" is even bigger than in the UK, so TV companies can't be surprised if people end up downloading shows...
