Sony PS3 – at $600

p2p news / p2pnet: Sony is praying the market will stand an e-toy at between $500 and $600 (larger hard drive) a throw.

That’s what it’s demanding for its Play Station 3, slated to go on sale everywhere on November 17, just in time for Christmas.

But analysts and industry buffs at this week’s E3, "aren’t surprised by the price," says the Associated Press.

After all, the PS3, "does include a Blu-ray optical drive for playing high-definition movies. The current crop of stand-alone Blu-ray players retail for around $1,000."

But Sony is presently # 1 in game boxes with PlayStation 2, "and it’s hoping that customer loyalty, arguably the best hardware specs of the three new machines and the ability to play PS2 and PSOne titles will make the PS3 console a best-seller despite the astronomical price," says the Detroit Free Press.

And it’s also Bluetooth compatible for local wireless gadgets.

Ultimately, however, "it seems that Nintendo will be the one to beat," believes The Inquirer, "especially with a dramatic price difference (for a price of PS3, you get complete console, around three games and some accessories).

Sorry Sony, but your expecting way too much from your consumers… Especially if u hopped parents would buy something that expensive for their kids this xmas.

    $600 is just plain rediculious.

People are gonna see their options are between a $200 Nintendo, and a $600 Sony…

Nintendo has now gained their place in the market back.

EVeryone will be Buying a Nintendo Wii for Christmas for $150-200 so they can play tennis golf baseball with the Wiimote .

The Wii is also compatible with older games and has a virtual console for backward compatiblity .

I was a loyal PS1 & PS2 fan, But at $600 for the ps3 I’ll be taking my biz else where.

    ridiculous, not rediculous

  5. Reader's Write Says:

The Sony PS3 console will be kicking off the HD revolution for 1080 res..

Most folks will see the PS3 as the Blueray HD player and the gaming
capabilities as just an added benefit…

    Its going to rock….

  6. Reader's Write Says:

I agree. The Blu-Ray drive included with the PS3 will not sell it any better in the UK, either. We just got SkyHD so, not everyone has a HDTV. When the BBC polled how many people cared about HD, 76% said they didn’t. And, from what I’ve heard, the games are similar to the 360s. Don’t see anyone paying that amount of money for something they could get at less than half the price with a 360.

  7. Reader's Write Says:

It probably will. But a lot of customers are parents. They’re not gonna pay that much for a console. And that is just for the console. The games and an extra controller are gonna put the price up even more.
