Viral Film Trailers
p2p news / p2pnet: The social networking and mashup site Jumpcut is helping facilitate a project to remix trailers for the film A Scanner Darkly.
Warner Bros Independent Pictures provided 49 still images and 23 video clips as source material and there have been more than 26 fan created trailers posted since Tuesday when the project went live.
A Scanner Darkly uses a technique known as “rotoscoping” to layer animation over live action as seen in the first three Star Wars films. RES Magazine says A Scanner Darkly “portrays an
America whose citizens understand and accept that they are under
constant and complete surveillance — an America where the War on
Drugs and the War on Terror have converged and given way to a
modern police state.” (Sounds a bit like a documentary actually…)
The grand prize winner will get a trip to the premier in Hollywood, a hi spec PC with included software and exemption from being sued for copyright infringement, as is often the case with mashups and remixes. Of course, nobody else will receive anything for helping sell the film for WBI, but with any luck it will help give some independent film makers a chance to practice their editing skills.
