Women drive Net music sales
p2p news / p2pnet: Technology-savvy (hate that phrase) women are driving the increase in digital music sales, says media group Emap.
Quoted by the BBC, "More than three quarters of women aged 16-45 in the UK now own an MP3 player or mobile phone that plays MP3s," it found, saying women listen longer, discover more music and hear more podcasts.
The story fails to say that online, there are parallel digital download universes: the unreal fantasy ‘we wish’ world of the Big Four Organized Music cartel; and, the real world of digital downloads featuring the p2p networks and indie sites, where all the genuine action is.
Eight out of 10 also say they have rediscovered lots of old artists and albums, compared with 72% of men, says the Beeb, going on that women say they spend more time on the internet looking for new music, 7% higher than the figure for men.
Gotta be a spin in there somewhere. Yes?
You got it.
"The digital music market is booming, with download sales up more than 150% in the first three months of the year, compared with the same period in 2005," says the story.
For "digital music market" read iTunes, the Apple iPod loss leader which at this point can be said to be the only serious corporate download site, and as for booming, better saying echoing hollowly with the p2p networks and indie musician and download sites such as AllofMP3.com making most of the noise.

I’m sorry to say, but you really have to be dumb to waste your money on this overpriced crap. I just download all mainstream albums these days. The only money i spend on music these days is on independents.

And I do not even download any mainstream albums (because the enemies of the public may benefit if I do download them).
