I agree, the Iaudio M5 is a great little player too, with superb sound quality and it comes with drivers so you can use it with Win98 or Linux as well.
Players that lock you in to using WMP suck.

"You want one that transfers files by UMS (universal mass storage)"

Yes! What he/she said!

As the previous poster stated, this is an easy to overlook, but very important and usful feature that many of the "incumbents" are moving away from.

Don't get sucked in by hype.

Don't forget the Cowon Iaudio X5.

Ogg, flac, drop and drag.

They make an awesome UMP too, the A2, with open source firmware, (kinda).

Most of the new MP3 players coimg out are requiring WMP 11 to transfer files. Part of MS "plays for sure" Apple pushback.

Check before you buy. You want one that transfers files by UMS (universal mass storage) not some proprietary crap that locks you down to one computer or Operating system.

Like, do you really wanna be stuck with XP just to use your DAP?

It's about time someone did a review of something other then an apple product. While investigating a 1gig flash unit I was completely blown away by the sheer number of options, most of which were priced better, came with more features and were just as small.

I personally bought a sandisk 1gig player that came with a screen, FM radio, voice recorder, all for about 50bucks cheaper then the shuffle. iPods might be slick but your paying for that slickness. Besides, once you hit play and it goes in your pocket does it really matter?

(Cue emotional Apple zealot retort in 5, 4, 3, 2, and .......)
