More Google Adsense nonsense
p2p news / p2pnet: When you most need an online laugh, something always turns up.
Sharman Networks and Nikki Hemming aren’t the only ones accusing p2pnet of wicked transgressions. In a charge that’s also pure, unadulterated bovine excreta, Google says we were generating false Adsense clicks. Grounds for a defamation lawsuit? Nah. We’re not getting on that wagon. Or maybe we should?
Anyhow, as we posted here, Google, “closed the p2pnet account without discussion or warning, falsely claiming we’d ‘violated’ its terms of service by generating fake clicks. Is that libel? Or is it slander? Either way, we’ve been defamed. Moreover, Google flatly refuses to explain how it arrived at that utterly incorrect conclusion.”
We don’t have the means of doing anything about it, beyond protesting online in the hope that eventually, Google will pay attention and do the right thing. But we’re not holding our breath. After all, none of the people we’ve emailed have even had the common courtesy to respond, let alone address the issue.
So what’s funny.
Well, many of the Google Adsense ads were tacky, to considerably understate the situation. You know the kind: Peer To Peer Sharing, Enjoy unlimited access to Movies, Music, Software, Games & more! Or, Music – Free Downloads 12 Billion Songs, No Download Fees 100% Legal – Find Any Song Fast! Or, Free – Music Downloads 12 Billion Songs – No Download Fees Find Any Song Fast, Safe & Legal.
And so on.
For a long time, we tried to delete the most offensive. But Google sets a limit of 200 and once we’d reached it, which didn’t take long, there wasn’t much else we could do, beyond taking the entire Adsense strip offline. Which we did for a while. But we always need $ to keep the site going, and we finally put them back again. It didn’t bring much in, but it all counts.
Then the company yanked the Adsense nonsense without warning or explanation.
It was therefore pretty ripe to receive the following email from Google’s Adsense folks.
We’re writing to let you know about a coming change to the appearance of your Google ads. Your ads currently display the default Google color palette, Seaside (formerly known as Mother Earth). In the near future, we plan to update the default palette to Open Air, a new palette containing the same set of colors, but without the blue border. We’ve found that many publishers prefer the cleaner look of this palette and have also seen that a blended color palette performs better for them — attracting user interest while still maintaining the distinction between ads and content with the ‘Ads by Google’ label.”
There’s more, but you get the picture.
; )
NOTE: p2pnet is currently being sued for alleged libel by Kazaa owner Sharman Networks and Kazaa ceo Nikki Hemming. In the interests of freedom of speech, we’re determined to fight this case before a jury but we don’t have the financial or legal resources to meet them on level ground. Any help you can give will be very gratefully received. Please go here for more.

I looked into Yahoo publisher for the Boycott Riaa site, but their TOS says they want NOTHING to do with any site that might be considered as supporting “piracy” or what could be percieved as encouraging “illegal downloading”
