War of the Worms
p2pnet.net Security News:- What started as an anti-SCO attack and went on to include Microsoft and the RIAA now appears to have mushroomed into an all-out War of the Worms.
SCO was the initial target of the Mydoom e-worm (aka Novarg), which became the fastest spreading email worm in history.
First identified by Finland’s F-Secure on January 26, Mydoom was programmed to launch a worldwide denial-of-service (DOS) attack from every infected computer against the SCO website on February 1. It did just that, and successfully.
It went on to attack Microsoft’s site, drew a blank there, and turned its attention to the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America). The music industry site is a frequent victim of hack-attacks and it went down.
Then mass-mailers Bagle (Beagle) and Netsky (NetSky) turned up and now appear to be bent as much on slagging each other as causing problems for computer owners.
One of Bagle’s tricks was to uninstall – or try to uninstall – Netsky.
But we now have Bagle.K, says F-Secure. It’s spreading in the wild as an executable file or in a password protected ZIP archive and inside, has a message for the NetSky worm author, to wit:
“Hey, NetSky, f*ck off you b*tch!”
Enter Netsky.F – with a message for the creator of Bagle, namely:
“Skynet AntiVirus – Bagle – you are a looser!!!”
Says F-Secure on its site here:
“A question: When the war will stop?
Answer: When Netsky stops removing Bagle.
A question: When this will happen?
Answer: Somewhere in the future (probably never) or when Bagle stats to remove Netsky. Might happen
in the next Bagle edition.
Current score: Netsky 6 – Bagle 11
