Google, Dell deal confirmed
p2p news / p2pnet: It’s now official. When you press the button to boot up Dell computers, you’ll also get Google.
Certain company applications, including the toolbar and search engine, will show up in the Internet Explorer 6 side pane, to the chagrin of Bill and the Boyz who are trying to out-Google Google in a number of areas.
Back in February, theunofficialgoogleweblog thought it was a reasonable bet that included in the You-Get-It-Whether-You-Want-It-Or-Not-ware would be Google Earth, Google Desktop, Picasa, Google Talk, Mozilla Firefox, Norton Antivirus, and Adobe Reader 7.
And it won’t matter if you’re a corporate or home user.
The new Doogle systems will also include a Google-Dell home page, says the San Francisco Chronicle, going on:
“Both Microsoft and Mountain View’s Google are vying for the most valuable piece of real estate in technology: the first screen users see on desktop or notebook PCs.”
Some analysts, “speculated that the deal probably involved Google paying a fee for every Dell PC with its programs,” says the story.
Partnerships between and among companies who desperately want to get into your wallets are becoming commonplace.
In one of the latest, Yahoo and eBay’s have agreed a deal under which the former will be the exclusive provider of graphical advertisements for the latter, also promoting eBay’s PayPal to its merchants and publishers.

NOTE: p2pnet is being sued by Sharman Networks and Nikki Hemming, ceo of p2p application Kazaa. “The suit is a little odd, since P2PNet.net is a champion of peer-to-peer file-sharing, which is the same business that Kazaa is in,” says The Globe & Mail.
