Singapore podcast, vlog ban
p2p news / p2pnet: "We have adopted a light touch approach in dealing with the everyday use of the Internet," says Lee Boon Yang, Singapore’s minister for communications, information and the arts.
But the "light touch" includes hands-on during the country’s election period, "when such free-for-all may result in undesirable situations, we cannot take a competely hands-off approach," he said in a speech at a conference by the public relations academy, quoted by Agence France-Presse.
The story goes on, "Lee said however the government was open to adjusting its policies to take into account the changes of still-evolving Internet technologies and other forms of new media."
Singapore was criticised for imposing curbs on online political discussions ahead of the May 6 polls won by the ruling People’s Action Party, adds AFP.
The "curbs" ban the use of podcasts and videocasts, "as advertising vehicles during elections".

NOTE: p2pnet is being sued by Sharman Networks and Nikki Hemming, ceo of p2p application Kazaa. “The suit is a little odd, since P2PNet.net is a champion of peer-to-peer file-sharing, which is the same business that Kazaa is in,” says The Globe & Mail.
