LIVE versus VIIV
p2p news / p2pnet: AMD has launched its first media center-enabled PCs, built on Athlon 64 X2 dual-core processors. And they’ll include a collection of purpose-designed services and applications.
"Intel introduced its VIIV line of computers in August of last year," says BetaNews. But AMD Live seems to focus is more on the applications.
"For example, a service called On Demand would assist in streaming live or pre-recorded media to various devices," it says. "Unlike VIIV’s set of applications, AMD has made many of these available for free from the AMD Live Web site."
Acer, Alienware, Fujitsu Siemens, Gateway, Hewlett-Packard, Sahara, and Tsinghua Tongang will offer AMD Live!-branded systems, says EETimes.
Among services to be offered on AMD Live! is On Demand from Orb Networks, "that streams live or prerecorded television programs, photos, music, and movies to Web-connected devices," says the story.

NOTE: p2pnet is being sued by Sharman Networks and Nikki Hemming, ceo of p2p application Kazaa. "The suit is a little odd, since P2PNet.net is a champion of peer-to-peer file-sharing, which is the same business that Kazaa is in," says The Globe & Mail.
