Toshiba 200 gig 2.5″ HDD

p2p news / p2pnet: Toshiba has introduced a 200GB 2.5-inch HDD based on advanced Perpendicular Magnetic Recording (PMR) technology.

Weighing in at 98 grams, its new system, "features the world’s highest areal density at 178.8 gigabits per square inch and the highest capacity in the standard 9.5mm mobile PC format," it promises.

The 200GB dual-platter MK2035GSS is Toshiba’s first PMR drive to incorporate tunnel magneto-resistive recording (TMR) head technology and incorporates the Serial ATA (SATA) II interface with native command queuing, enabling faster data transfer rates and improved technical performance, it states.

It’ll start mass production in August 2006, it adds.

NOTE: p2pnet is being sued by Sharman Networks and Nikki Hemming, ceo of p2p application Kazaa. “The suit is a little odd, since P2PNet.net is a champion of peer-to-peer file-sharing, which is the same business that Kazaa is in,” says The Globe & Mail. That’s the same physical size (and same brand) as which the iPod 4th and 5th generations use. Alright, let’s get this baby out so I can put this in my 30Gig iPod with video! Now I can live a little by putting a bunch of videos in. :)

Next thing on the list… release a battery geared for 12 hours of viewing videos.
