IM/IRC, encrypted or not, all had or can be had. But this has been known since the late 90’s.

I am very sure this will push (Canadian) bill C-74 (don’t know if an article was ever done here on C-74). But Canadians should be aware of it. Its also known at the MITA act or most commonly known as “lawfull access”.

Now with the above comes responsibility of informing the public and having other groups involved like a member of the privacy commissioner etc to keep an eye on things as a 3rd party to protect rights.

Its inevitable today. But what is not acceptable is what happening in the States with mass communication mining w/o peoples knowledge and no watch-dog to over-see and protect rights etc.

Bill C-74 was rejected for this. But i am sure this will now be revisited very shortly again. Keep your eyes open for it.
