Swedish government site hacked
p2p news / p2pnet: Swedish Justice Minister Thomas Bodström may have been the designated target in a weekend hack which forced the country’s official web site offline for eight hours.
“The system was overloaded because an external homepage redirected many Internet users to a specific file on the (government) website,” government spokeswoman Hanna Brogren told Agence France-Presse.
Visitors were redirected users to a picture on Bodström, “who has been criticised by filesharers,” says the AFP.
The Pirate Bay is back online after being temporarily shut down following a Swedish police action instigated by Hollywood’s MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America).
The Swedish police site was also hit by hackers and TPB was back up under a Dutch host by Saturday.
“Under Bodstroem’s watch as justice minister Sweden last year passed a law banning the sharing of copyrighted material on the Internet without payment of royalties, in a bid to crack down on free downloading of music, films and computer games,” saysa AFP. “Filesharing carries a maximum sentence of two years in prison.
“It was probably not a coincidence that a picture of the minister was the target of the attack, according to Tobias Andersson, spokesman for The Pirate Agency, which represents filesharers.”
Piratpartiet, Piratbyrån, Grön ungdom, Liberala Ungdomsförbundet and Ung vänster were among groups which organized a demonstration in Stockholm over the weekend.

NOTE: p2pnet is being sued by Sharman Networks and Nikki Hemming, ceo of p2p application Kazaa. “The suit is a little odd, since P2PNet.net is a champion of peer-to-peer file-sharing, which is the same business that Kazaa is in,” says The Globe & Mail.
