Mea culpa. After editing and correcting my reply (above), I still screwed it up by submitting the unedited version! For what it's worth, I made the following corrections:

"practised" should be "practiced"

"cudos" should be "kudos"

In general, I fully agree with Mr. Geist.

However, I take exception to his assertion that "we are all journalists now". There are millions of bloggers out there in cyber-space, but precious few journalists!

Writing an opinion piece, or even penning an article with some news content, does not make a person a journalist. Lamentably, the art of journalism is rarely practised these days. I would venture to guess that less than two percent of all bloggers could unhesitatingly state the primary rule of journalistic reporting. "The five W's and the H" probably have absolutely no meaning to them. How many could list even three or four ethics of journalism? How many possess the command of their native language to rest assured that they have not misused a particular word or colloquialism and that they have represented either truth or opinion in a clear and concise manner?

Most blogs are little more than op-ed pieces that merely express personal opinions, which (as some anonymous sage observed) are like certain parts of the human anatomy -- everyone has one.

Curiously enough, Mr. Geist gives an admirable account of himself, as regards journalism. His article is well-thought-out, coherent, informative, and immensely readable.

Cudos to Mr. Michael Geist.

I am glad Mr. Michael Geist voiced his view.

I am glad i wrote him as well.

I am glad he stated the obvious, "We are all journalists".
