Footie star Pele joins MPAA

p2p news / p2pnet: The Big Six Hollywood movie studios are bent on making sure they, and only they, have control of the Net as the principal distribution medium for the 21st century, wielding their MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) as a club to crush anything and anyone standing in their way.

As part of their latest entirely self-serving PR effort, Time Warner, Viacom, Fox, Sony, NBC Universal and Disney have conned Brazilian football superstar Pelé into making an MPAA service statement slated to run on ESPNEWS, ESPN Classics, FOX Sports and HBO Ole during the coming World Cup tournament, which starts tomorrow.

Pelé, “embodies the notion of fair play,” says the puff-piece.

That being so, what’s he doing speaking for the MPAA? – one wonders.

He, “appeals to his ‘friends’ to ‘Score a goal against piracy’ explaining that piracy hurts working people – specifically the thousands of people who work on creating movies,” it says, ending with the traditional affected, fulsome and insincere quote from MPAA boss Dan Glickman who says, “We are honored to have a distinguished teammate in Pelé in our fight against film copyright theft.”

Roll on.

NOTE: p2pnet is being sued by Sharman Networks and Nikki Hemming, ceo of p2p application Kazaa. “The suit is a little odd, since P2PNet.net is a champion of peer-to-peer file-sharing, which is the same business that Kazaa is in,” says The Globe & Mail. what next? Barry Bonds For the RIAA?This is ridiculis, shame on you MAFIAA!

  2. Reader's Write Says:

Ok, now I’m convinced. File sharing is baaaaad. LOL!!!

What a joke. How can anyone possibly take these idiots serious anymore? They are so out of touch. Especially if this a US effort. Soccer is such a minor sport here compared to the rest of the world.

  3. Reader's Write Says:

Piracy only hurts the Big Six executives. KEEP ON DOWNLOADING! Less seatshops will need to make the huge wallets and pockets and less outsourcing will be needed to make bank accounts that huge. File sharing also reduces counterfeiting. Filesharing = win-win situation
MPAA = (M)ulti-billionaire idiots who don’t get the inevitable (P)icture are (A)ssholes who live in (A)merica
That’s why there’s “ass” in “association”

  4. Reader's Write Says:

….maybe p2p can find their own soccer (football) star and have them tout the phrase ‘Kick MPAA/RIAA in the balls.’

  5. Reader's Write Says:

Now THAT was funny:) Thanks for the laugh.

  6. Reader's Write Says:

    these mpaa dopes are such…dopes.

they’re running this on american networks, but the majority of americans don’t even know the world cup exists and so won’t be watching it. and those that have heard of the world cup won’t be watching it either.

so just who do they think their target audience is? illegal immigrants with illegal cable tv hookups?

    dopes.

(PS: don’t nobody get on my ass about me mentioning illegal immigrants. i’m not interested and it’s not the point of my comment, so bugger off.)

  7. Reader's Write Says:

Pele must have been hit in the head with that stupid ball. He’s from a dirt poor background. When will people who come from those beginnings realize that the MPAA doesn’t give a fuck about him?

  8. Reader's Write Says:

He does not give a fuck either. He just wants an extra dollar for the commercial.
