eBay intros contextual ads
p2p news / p2pnet: eBay is getting ready to offer contextual advertising. But its system, "differs from pay-per-click advertising systems offered by Google and rivals Yahoo Inc. and Microsoft Corp. by linking only to eBay auctions rather than serving as a generic advertising network," says The Washington Post.
As listings change on eBay, ads will automatically change, says the story, and affiliates will get a cut of 40% to 70% of sales, "depending on volumes,".
eBay also plans to, "encourage eBay sellers to embed Skype calling links into auction pages in a few product categories, including cars, real estate and diamond solitaire rings," says Reuters, quoting Newsweek magazine.
"Click to call" features would allow eBay customers to contact sellers via text, voice or video and, "have been a main selling point of eBay’s acquisition of Skype in October for as much as $4.2 billion," says the story.
Len Pryor, Skype’s head of developer relations, said eBay has been testing Skype integration in Asia and Europe, including Belgium, it says, adding:
" ‘The key markets will be coming online later,’ Pryor said, when asked about the time frame for embedding Skype features in the auctions business in its main markets of the United States, Germany and Britain."
