GoMyPlace remote access

p2p news / p2pnet: You’re in the middle of nowhere when you suddenly realize you forgot to check a couple of important emails. And naturally, they’re well out of reach on your home PC.

But don’t panic. Maybe it won’t be a big problem after all.

In fact, it definitely won’t be – not if you simply head over to GoMyPlace. Because from there, you’ll be able to use standard browsers to tap your home/office PCs remotely from cell phones, PDAs, or any other Net-enabled devices. And you’ll be able to do it with your machine still hidden safely behind a firewall and NAT, says developer Larytet of Rodi fame.

There are all kinds of interesting applications for the open source GoMyPlace daemon, "including tunneling any HTTP server connected in the LAN, such as Azureus WEB management or internet enabled microwave, protecting sensitive HTTP servers, and so on," he told p2pnet. "The HTTP server can be behind NAT and corporate firewall and still be accessible via static URLs."

The server IP address is hidden behind the goMyPlace reversed proxy and the HTTP server refuses incoming connections, instead using the goMyPlace proxy with its fixed proxy server IP (and SSL and WEP in the future), waiting for requests, which it, for example demanding a login on top of the HTTP server’s own login.

"This proxy can be used to access any type of data and eventually, it’ll eventually be fairly transparent for the HTTP server."

At the moment, there are two ‘eat all you can’ GoMyPlace proxies in place and Larytet says he’ll add more as and when the need arises.

Moreover, he states, they’ll be in different countries, "improving latency and user experience".

Well, I clicked that link and found an uninterpretable page that seemed to be for cell phones only.

Can this be used on PCs, also? If not, is there something comparable to it that can?
