Girl sues MySpace.com

p2p news / p2pnet: Rupert Murdoch’s MySpace.com is being sued by a 14-year-old girl.

The site, and others like it, are plagued by charges that they can be happy hunting grounds for sexual predators.

The girl says she was sexually assaulted by another MySpace.com user, “claiming it [MySpace] does not take sufficient steps to protect underage members,” says the Associated Press.

A 19-year-old man, “lied in his profile about being a senior on a football team to gain her trust and phone number,” says The Guardian Unlimited, going on:

“Pete Solis was arrested in May on a charge of sexual assault of a child. He could not immediately be reached Monday evening.

“The suit alleges that MySpace has ‘absolutely no meaningful protections or security measures to protect underage users’.”

MySpace just needs to transfer ALL under 18 members to their new onlinebabysitter.com service. Too bad this girl will most likely survive long enough to reproduce. Some Darwinian selection is in order.

If she’s stupid enough to give her phone number away to some guy on the internet, she deserves what she gets. It’s pathetic.

    [ sarcasm ]
What’s the matter with you ??
It is absolutely the responsibility of the law to prevent
people from wearing their ass for a hat.
    didn’t you know that ?? [ / sarcasm ]

As a parent, if either of my daughters fell for shit like this it would
be MY OWN DAM FAULT for not teaching them better, and for not
being more attentive to what they were doing on the internet.

    sue happy asswipes.

    Hi

I’m a GQ magazine super-model. Sexy loose women pls give me your phone #’s, Thanks. Oh and lets meet and possibley bump fuzzies. If you have parants and friends don’t let them know your meeting a stranger from the internet claiming to be a super-model.

    Thanks in advance,

    Biff
Super-model extraordinaire and capt’n of the football team.

    unh-hunh….

  5. Reader's Write Says:

Its both…the girls fault and her parents. But thats not the point. The point is it is not myspaces fault. PEOPLE NEED TO LEARN TO TAKE BLAME FOR THERE OWN DAMN ACTIONS. I’m tired of peple trying to put blame on others!

  6. Reader's Write Says:

The DumbAss got what she deserved. Its here own fault giving out here number. It is totally not My Space-’s fault Where are the DUMB ASS PARENTS!!!!!!!!!!!!! to teach this little whore what to do and what not to do

  7. Reader's Write Says:

    ahaha that was harsh!

but not far from the truth…

Then again, at 19 she should have the sole responsibility for her own actions… little whore isn’t far from the truth i guess…. hahaha

  8. Reader's Write Says:

    oh she was 14
    I mis-read

  9. Reader's Write Says:

surely there is an eula somewhere on the site that absolves them of all responsility :D

  10. Reader's Write Says:

    lol must be.

In any account.. the story is funny the way the press presents it. But, it doesn’t do justice for the girl who was ASSAULTED.

We can call her whore and so on… but its a 14 yr old, all full of adventures, dreams of meeting prince charming and a good imagination and dreams.

Its no where near my spaces’ fault. wrong people being sued. Parants should be sued. But who can control Inet access at school, library, home with 100% certainty.

Also who doesn’t lie about their profile to possibley get laid, like the guy did.

But the media made a circus of it (the two references).

The fact of the matter is: a young girl is swept off her feet by a 19 yer old who turns out to be a sexual preditor.

Of course a 14 yr old is going to say he lied. SHE’S 14!!!!!

The Media didn’t do no justice here and makes it look like her own fault.

  11. Reader's Write Says:

“But, it doesn’t do justice for the girl who was ASSAULTED. ”

Please quote how she was assaulted.

    Let’s see ..

Little slut thinks she’s meeting up with an 18 yr old jock for sex.
Finds a nineteen year old non-jock, has sex anyways.

prolly get’s found out an cries “rape” and sues myspace to cover
    her butt.

  12. Reader's Write Says:

As innocent as MySpace is in here. I think they should atleast do something about this. Their reputation as being a “good” place is going down the drain fast. They need to get a “learn to not give out your telephone numbers to strangers” school for people who can’t do stuff like that good but would really like to do that kind of stuff good and do other stuff good too.

I do realize they have privacy policy, help, contact MySpace, About, FAQ, Terms and the ever important SAFETY TIPS. PLEASE, NOTICE THE LAST PAGE THERE. SAFETY TIPS! But even with these they could possibly take away one of their many space destroying ads and put in a safety link towards the top of the page. No one who uses it wants to see “Get MySpace Mobile Alerts! New! Get MySpace Mobile on Helio! New!” to be wasting a couple hundred pixels. 5 Lines of a page are wasted for that notice that has been up for quite a few months.

I have heard of groups forming to teach kids on the facts of safety with the internet and copyright violations. And if there is one in her area, she needs to go. MySpace is perfectly fine and its the people like her that ruin it for most of the other people out there. Hell, it helped me learn CSS.

she so dumm dats why most people only have thier friends they see at school or around the nieghborhood.and she 14 her parents should be held sum wht responsible for thier own damm child . does she not have any common sense or wht?!! i mean when i was 14 , i was not worry about being sum dummass guy most guys dont mature till thier about the age 35. i bet her parents never thought it would happen to their child well guess wht it did all becuz she had no bussiness messing around doing dumm shit and not using common sense. thiers people den thier are people. just cuz of all da stupid shit younger teens do they [being older adults] take away all privillages that older teens and midteens have. like they are starting to block myspace from public library’s [how gay]!

  14. Reader's Write Says:

    What he (she?) said!!!

  15. Reader's Write Says:

I also bet she lied about her age. Many young kids are doing this now to be able to open their MySpace page up to everyone. I believe if I’m not mistaken your MySpace can only be viewed by people on your friends list until you turn 16 which it becomes open to everyone. The age verification is so easy to by pass. All you have to do is say some birthday. I mean you tell tell the system that your 100 years old if you want.

My verdict on this case puts the blame both on the child, no matter if she did lie about her age to open her page up to everyone or not, and the parents. Internet safety is a must no matter if your a 14 yr old girl or an adult.

  16. Reader's Write Says:

i think it should not be myspace.com’s fault. the girl is underage but she made the choice to meet with the guy. she was willing to take that risk.. if she was thinking she would have had a friend go with her, or not go at all. myspace does have some people who do strange things to meet people, but they do sent out bulletins warning people about dangerous men and woman who are wanted or who are preditors.. when it comes to the myspace staff, they are really nice are taking care of things. especially if the site has troubles in any way.. again, i think even though it is messed up what happened to the girl, she should be held responsible for her actions. she didnt say no when she went to the movies or dinner. and any female over 18 knows what a guy these days wants if he brings her out. but this girl is young, not wise to mens actions and should have talked it over with someone first. she was obviosly looking for some type of attention..

  17. Reader's Write Says:

For a 14 year old, she’s pretty stupid. Please don’t tell me that 14 is young. That’s a freshmen in high school. Before you start defending her, ask your self this: were you that dumb to met up with a total stranger, that you’ve just met on the internet, and expect good things out of it?

  18. Reader's Write Says:

kids do the stupidest things. Thats why they need parants and/or a guardian to keep them straight, and an open relationship to discuss matters such as this.

Have you ever done something comepletey dumb & stupid at 14?

  19. Reader's Write Says:

What security measures do they expect myspace to take?
myspace is so useful to everyone, it would be a shame if they were to ban it. (one poster said it was banned in some libraries).

    Any ideas anyone?
What can myspace (or any forum for that matter), do to prevent this from happening?
Ask for birth certificates or other proof of age from members? How would that work? get their social security number? yikes.

How does the phone company prevent underage people from talking dirty on their phone lines to sex offenders?
Maybe they could sue the phone company too.

  20. Reader's Write Says:

Children must get educated that myspace and other “Internet Contact Place” are taken by child molesters going after fucking kids! They have many fake sites, put photos about (fake) girls there and tell fucking fake stories. It has to much weirdos doing that!

  21. Reader's Write Says:

ACCOMPANY their kids while on the internet AND TEACH them how to handle the REALITY situations of REAL LIFE?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?

First, this kid is old enough to understand being taught that you can’t trust just ANYONE in today’s world. WHY wasn’t she taught that?????????

    ANSWER: LAZY/Deliberately STUPID “parents”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If a person is harmed in an auto accident NOT involving a malfunction of vehicle(s) are the vehicle manufacturers sued? NOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is STUPID and FRIVOLOUS lawsuit!

Put the blame where it belongs!!! ON THE PARENTS of this 14 year old that doesn’t know not to give out personal info to anyone online ….or OFFLINE for that matter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  22. Reader's Write Says:

I personally know of TWO cases where young teen girls LIED about their ages to have sex with an older guy. One of those cases lead to a perfectly good human being [the guy, of COURSE!) wasting over six years in prison and then having whole life (as well as anyone’s who has anything to do with him) by his name published as a ‘Child Sexual Preditor’ on that NASTY list we have here in the ‘good ole U S of A’ **== :|

There are POSERS on BOTH sides of the fence! It’s time people woke up to that fact!
