iPod movies a ‘2007 kind of thing’?

p2p news / p2pnet: The story that, thanks to iPod, big movies may soon be coming to tiny screens near you, continues to gain currency.

But not all that soon, apparently.

"Apple has hoped to get the store up and running within weeks, Hollywood sources say," according to BusinessWeek Online, going on, "That’s because Apple and studios remain at loggerheads on a range of issues, from how much movie downloads should cost, to the degree of piracy protections they should carry.

"This will take months and months to figure it out," says one source involved in the talks is quoted as saying.

"It may even be a 2007 kind of thing."

With iPod users nicely accustomed to forking out $1 for digital music downloads worth only a few cents, and $2.00 for TV shows and music videos, Apple is reportedly inclining towards movie price points ranging from $10.00 to $20.00.

Apple pays TV companies 70% wholesale, and Organized Music up to 85 cents wholesale for music files.

But given that downloads are to all intents and purposes loss leaders for iPod, any money Apple makes beyond breaking even is icing on the cake.

Proprietary DRM infected movies that will only play on iPods with it’s 2.5″ screen. Are people that stupid?

I heard something on the radio earlier about Apple saying they wanted to charge $10 (about £5) for a movie download but the movie industry said that was too low. For DRM filled crap? I don’t think so.

At the time I hearing that I was mucking out a horses stable. Ah, the irony.

I agree with you, however look at ringtones. anyone who pays money to make their phone play a certain song when it rings is an idiot too. people love to throw away their money on pure shit.
