IFPI German raids ‘waste of time’
p2p news / p2pnet: Where the Big Four Organized Music cartel is concerned, hype springs eternal and a little while back, Warner Music, EMI, Sony BMG and Vivendi Universal were using their IFPI (International Federation of Phonographic Industry) to pump up “raids” against German Edonkey / Emule users.
Some 3,500 were, “under investigation,” but, “The average German P2P user couldn’t care less, apparently,” says the P2P Blog.
“Leipzig-based traffic management company Ipoque now reports that the crackdown led to ‘almost no change in the downloading behaviour’ of P2P users. Right after the raids P2P traffic was down 15 percent, but three weeks later it’s business as usual for teutonic file traders.”
Moreover, “Ipoque doesn’t think file trading will go down in Germany anytime soon,” says the post, adding:
“People would instead just take up additional security measures, like encrypting their hard discs.”
