The Pirate Bay: more hot water

p2p news / p2pnet: Sweden’s The Pirate Bay is in trouble again.

Only this time, it’s not Hollywood’s MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) that’s giving it grief. Rather, it’s had a broadside from a sea-faring site.

"The Swedish Maritime Administration has filed a police report against file-sharing web site The Pirate Bay, after popular navigation software was made available for download." Says The Local, going on:

"The Administration, in a June 16 letter to police, said their navigation program, ‘The Living Sea Map,’ was downloaded from Pirate Bay nearly 2500 times’."

The program provides small boats in particular with GPS-linked maps of Swedish waters, as well as, "useful information on harbours," says the story.

Wonder where the SMA acquired the download stats?

(Thanks, Lars)

they just want all of us seafaring pirates to get lost at sea?

The issue here is the same reason the MPAA and such are fighting with the piratebay, the issue though from my limited understanding is that currerntly torrent files that point to copyighted information is not ilegal in sweden. The file that is hosted on the piratebay.org’s servers is a link , such files can be found on google and other such search engines.

98% of Sweden’s trade is seaborne, they should be pleased so many people are interested in navigating their waters safely. Unless of course this is a case of government intervention looking for an excuse to cover up the fact they illegally raided TPB on orders from Michey Mouse.

Does this complained in fact mean there are “nearly 2500″ on real waters operating Pirats (these real bad guys the content mafiaa propaganda tries to associate free culture fighters with) sailing around Sweden?

Do they have no coastguard or what?

Is it not save anymore to ship along swedish waters?

And by the way; the stats section on TPB is screwed since ages!

Better hope for this organisation their “2500″ claim is not based on statsdispayed on TPB ;)
