French satellite service still down
p2p news / p2pnet: “You are incredibly numerous to connect you to Géoportail, gate of the territories and the citizens since his setting on line. We recorded several million connections in a few hours. Because of this multitude, the site is currently saturated.”
That’s the Google translation of a post currently (8:50 am Pacific) on the new French satellite look-down site. “Vous êtes incroyablement nombreux à vous connecter au Géoportail, portail des territoires et des citoyens depuis sa mise en ligne,” it states. “Nous avons enregistré plusieurs millions de connexions en quelques heures. En raison de cette affluence, le site est actuellement saturé.”
“With the wonder of Google Earth, President Jacques Chirac reiterated the necessity for France to have such a site saying the state had to be at the forefront of modern technology,” Chirca was quoted as saying in reference to the US service.
However, scheduled for official launch in September, France’s application doesn’t appear to have been online to any great extent.
We tried it on Saturday, achieving only a brief visit, and The Register resorted to a Google Earth peek at three AWAC aircraft (bottom right in the pic) at the Avord air base.
