Virgin France piracy scandal
p2p news / p2pnet: What IS the world coming to?
Corporate music site Virgin France has been found guilty of pirating a corporate music download!
Owned by Lagardere, Virginmega was fined for illegally downloading Madonna’s Hung Up to resell on its own site, says the BBC, going on that the site had, "ignored an exclusive deal reached by Warner Music France with France Telecom and Orange".
Virginmega must now fork out 250,000 euros (abut $ 313,308) to each telecom firm, and 100,000 euros (about $125,323) to Warner.
"This is an amazing case of simple piracy by a respected company," the International Herald Tribune has France Télécom Hervé Payan saying, going on, "Virgin behaved in a surreal manner by downloading the song, cracking protection measures and then selling it from their own Web site."
However, "We have always been ahead of the others posing questions that look to the interests of consumers," the story quotes store director Laurent Fiscal as saying.
"We are precursors in the question of exclusive sales and think a debate should take place between sales platforms and producers."
Neither story says what Madonna’s cut will be.

“Neither story says what Madonna’s cut will be.”
a guess: nothing.
Why do you think that the settlements in lawsuit are always confidential.
That way no one can claim anything.
