m00p gr00p suspects busted
p2p news / p2pnet: A 63-year-old man from Ipswich, Suffolk, a 28-year-old man in the Grampian region of Scotland, and a 19-year-old man from Helsinki, Finland, all suspected M00P members, have been arrested on suspicion of belonging to the m00p group.
m00p is, "believed to have written malware in order to create a zombie network (or botnet) of compromised computers under their control," says security firm Sophos.
Malware with references to the m00p gang including the W32/Dogbot spyware worm, Troj/Hackarmy-C, Troj/Santabot-A, Troj/Shuckbot-A, W32/Rbot-BF, and W32/Tibick-A, says the post.
"The three men were arrested in co-ordinated raids at their homes this morning," says The Times Online.
"They were being interviewed today on suspicion of conspiracy to commit unauthorised modification of computer material, a crime covered by the 1992 Computer Security Act. The charge carries a maximum penalty of six months in prison or a £5,000 (about $9,078) fine."
