VoIP calls to go
p2p news / p2pnet: VoIP company Vonage has introduced the V-Phone, a $40 USB unit it says will allow people near Wi-Fi hot spots to make calls from any PC or laptop with high speed Net access.
The company is charging $15 for 500 minutes, $25 for residential unlimited and $35 for business unlimited and $10 for activation.
“Calls to Canada and Puerto Rico are considered local and Vonage has reduced international rates with no connection fees,” it states.
Vonage software comes pre-loaded on the V-Phone and updates itself on the device’s 256 MB flash drive, says Vonage, adding:
“Parents of teenagers who use laptops can save money on home and cell phone bills by giving kids the V-Phone,” suggests the company.
V-phone comes with a standard 2.5 mm stereo earpiece microphone and minimum PC configurations include Microsoft 98 SE, Windows ME, Windows 2000 and Windows XP.
But V-Phone isn’t currently compatible with Apple, Macintosh, or Linux Systems, says Vonage.
