Telecom Italia wants AOL Europe
p2p news / p2pnet: Time Warner plans to spin off the access end of AOL Europe, but wants to keep the content business, says Heise Online, going on:
"The subsidiary would then either be broken up into several national companies or sold in whole to one bidder."
With that as background, a takeover battle is developing with telecom providers such as Telecom Italia among the companies showing interest.
Financial investor Permira is also thinking about bidding for the German subsidiary of US media group, says Heise, going on that Freenet.de and Versatel have also expressed interest.
But, "At the moment, Telecom Italia seems to be the top contender," states Heise, continuing, "rumor has it that the firm has long been interested in AOL subsidiaries and is now bidding for the business in Germany and France. Freenet, Versatel and Telefonica are apparently only interested in AOL Deutschland."
