Hacker McKinnon: songwriter

p2p news / p2pnet: Britain boasts a government-accredited ‘ethical hacker‘ course at the University of Abertay in Dundee, Scotland, where, "Students will be taught how to crack the most sophisticated security systems with the aim of advising organisations how to protect their networks," said The Times Online recently.

It appears, however, to have no qualms about handing over UK hacker Gary McKinnon to American authorities, although supporters are up in arms over the UK government’s decision to let him be extradited.

The story of how McKinnon started his hacking career by looking for evidence that the US governments had orchestrated a UFO cover-up, and that his friends and supporters are afraid he’ll be rail-roaded if he’s tried in America, is now well covered.

Dr K, "an author and chronicler of the hacking scene," believes the US is, "scapegoating Gary McKinnon to cover up their own shortcomings as systems administrators," he told the BBC.

"Who breaks a butterfly on a wheel?" – he asked. "It’s a decision long on spin and short on substance," and extraditing and trying him wouldn’t do anything to improve security on US military networks, he stated.

However, McKinnon is, amongst other things, also a musician and songwriter, says the Free Gary McKinnon blog.

He wrote and performed two songs on Lunar Girl, a low budget film Lunar Girl, made into a TV version.

Download his Only a Fool, here, and we’ve mirrored a copy here.

It’s not bad.

"Lunar Girl highlights many social problems, without making you feel that you’re being preached to in any way and touches on some environmental issues just long enough to make you think," says the site. "Lunar Girl, played to a packed house at the National Film Theatre NFT1, London."

Digg this.
