Who’s running the RIAA?
p2p news / p2pnet: Who’s in charge of the RIAA, these days? Or to put it another way: have RIAA bosses Mitch Bainwol and Cary Sherman been ousted?
Wired News carries a Q&A with another ex-RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) boss, Hilary Rosen in which Eliot Van Buskirk asks:
“What advice you would give to (current RIAA head) Jonathan Lamy?”
Current RIAA head?
He signed on as the RIAA’s director of communications in 2002 and is sometimes quoted in the lamescream media.
One of Lamy’s more memorable utterances came after the RIAA accused an 83-year-old grandmother of being a p2p file sharer. To make things worse, she was a deceased 83-year-old grandmother.
“We will now, of course, obviously dismiss this case,” quoth Lamy.
When was he elevated, though?
The RIAA recently announced the apointment of another Bain, Scott, as vp of legal affairs, but no mention was made of Lamy’s supersedence over Bainwol and Sherman and when we went to the RIAA site for a tongue-in-cheek look, Mitch was still listed as the headman with Cary as president.
Digg this.

I thought you might enjoy watching this video on bolt.com, called âDo Not Disconnectâ – http://www.bolt.com/bolt/video/1347477 – it’s a satire aimed at the RIAAâs ineffectual attempts to thwart people from doing web karaoke.
The RIAA recently targeted YouTube.com for hosting certain music videos. If/when they turn their sights to Bolt, weâll oblige their requests to remove any unlicensed content, but weâll replace it with our version of the story! Check out our reply to NBC’s recent cease and desist letter which required Bolt to remove “Lazy Sunday” and was promptly replaced with Hazy Monday http://www.bolt.com/bolt/video/769256.
And while we were at it – until a verdict has been reached on whether people should-or-should not do web karoake, we compiled the Top 10 List of the Best Songs to Lip Sync To!
