‘Critical’ Windows flaws
p2p news / p2pnet: Five of seven bulletins just released by Microsoft address critical vulnerabilties, while two provide fixes for less severe flaws, says Computerworld.
Among the critical flaws disclosed today are two that exist on the server side, says the story, going on:
"One is a vulnerability in the Windows Server Service that could allow hackers to remotely execute code on compromised systems. The other critical server flaw involves the Window Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol Client Service. It, too, could result in remote code execution, according to Microsoft."
Separately, "Microsoft said it would stop offering security fixes for three older versions of its dominant operating system: Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition and Windows Millennium Edition," says the Associated Press, adding:
"Microsoft is hoping the lack of support will be one factor in prompting people to upgrade to newer Windows versions."
