Microsoft, Yahoo, IM deal
p2p news / p2pnet: In an unholy alliance, Microsoft and Yahoo IM networks will merge as of today.
In the process they’re, “creating the world’s largest consumer instant messaging community, with nearly 350m accounts, although not everyone would be able to use the service right away as testing continued,” says MSNBC.
But the “interoperability” will work only for users with the latest Windows and Yahoo Messenger programs.
The deal, “may help Microsoft and Yahoo, owner of the second-most-used Internet search engine, gain ground on AOL and lure more users to their websites as both try to fend off Google Inc., the world’s most-used search engine,” believes the Los Angeles Times.
