Specter’s Surveillance Bill

p2p news / p2pnet: Reuters is reporting , “Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Arlen Specter said he has negotiated a proposed bill with the White House” regarding the NSA’s illegal spying program, posts Derek Slater on the EFF’s (Electronic Frontier Foundation) Deep Links.

This bill has not been made public yet, he says, going on:

The draft bill seen by EFF (which is likely similar if not identical to the proposal reported by the press) would sweep the spying program and any further government surveillance under the rug, shuffling legal challenges out of the traditional court system and into the shadowy FISA courts.

“This is a bill gone bad – while Specter has consistently urged oversight of the spying program, this proposal would do nothing of the sort. In fact, it would cut off meaningful judicial review and stack the deck against anyone suing to stop illegal surveillance, including the wholesale violation of the Fourth Amendment alleged in EFF`s case against AT&T.

If your Senator is on the Senate Judiciary Committee, it’s critical that you take action immediately and urge Congress to let cases like EFF’s have a fair hearing in court.”

Digg this.

The survellance should be on the White House, to make sure that CIA operatives are not publicly treasoned and that no more lawsuits against the Whitre ouse are filed.

…>and to reelect the self declared anti-terrorism patriot saviours incumbents who actually work for their pockets and lobbies?<

Don’t you mean buying off voting machine companies? Can you say “Diebold”? And then there are those pesky “Chads”…..

The original poster made a point about __apathy__. It seems that you fit in that catagory:

    >Democracy has run out of steam in the USA.<

They also said we must take back our country by any means we can. They are correct.

  3. Reader's Write Says:

Yes, the White House NEEDS to be surveiled. But NOT for the reasons YOU list!!!!!

If you don’t like the US, MOVE TO CHINA!!! If you don’t live here, then Shut The Fuck Up!!!!!!!!!!

Really? Your sense of democracy is odd to say the least.
If you like dictatorships, then I can understand your idea.

I think that you, as most of us, need a course of democracy. For that purpose I have designed a two line course:

Democracy is freedom of speech. FREEDOM OF SPEECH, along with equal tretment under the law is the essence of democracy.

    Added:
Under equal treatment under the law, if copying-sharing a DVD movie is a five year sentence crime, when in fact no real crime ocurrs, as nothing is stolen, then revealing the name of a CIA agent should get a lifetime senstence, as it is far more damaging to the security of the agent and more importantly, the people.
