FACT is a farce
p2p news / p2pnet: FACT is short for Farcical Approaches to Copyright Transgressions.
Not really. FACT is an anagram for Federation Against Copyright Theft, yet another wholly owned entertainment cartel thingy designed to frighten people into buying over-priced corporate movie studio and record label ‘product’ they wouldn’t normally touch with a barge-pole.
In other words, facts are the last thing FACT is about and under instructions from the Big Six Hollydud studios and Big Four Organized Music gang, it tries to link file sharing with Organised Crime, Triads and terrorists.
That way, hope the purveyors of sounds that suck and mangy movies, people won’t mind if their kids get sued for not buying corporate ‘product’.
Astoundingly, Britain recently announced the formation of an official Metropolitan Police squad to be partnered with FACT and, dedicated to combating movie piracy and those responsible for the manufacture and distribution of pirated films, as the BBC put it at the time.
Now, £5 – Pirates of the Caribbean 2, is the headline for a totally unfactual FACT advert on page 36 of today’s (July 15) The Sun in the UK.
The fiver you give to the guy in the street could be paying off the people smugglers who brought him here illegally, it says.
DVD piracy costs too much Dont support it. Report it.
Don’t support Britain’s EMI, or Vivendi Universal (France), Warmer Music (US) and Sony BMG (Japan, Germany), the other three members of the Organized Music cartel. And stay away from flicks made by Time Warner, Viacom, Fox, Sony, NBC Universal or Disney.
And don’t forget that between them, the two entertainment groups directly own or indirectly control, by one means or another, the vast majority of the mainstream print and electronic media outlets that supply you with your ‘news’ and ‘information’.
The entertainment industry sees the Net as something it must bring under rigid control before things get completely out of hand, as they’re threatening to do with the advent of p2p, and freedom of choice and instant communication between, and among, what were previously the cash-cow members of the universal captive audience.

The ad claims all counterfeiters are of foreign origin… and it was in The Scum. Case closed.

Oh, God, I hope that ad plays in Canada and the US.
It would give me so much backing in an endeavour against another multi-national it would be GREAT!!! (Spoken like Mel Blanc – not the new Tony!)

It’s just as ‘likely’ that the money is being paid into the account of a cancer charity.
These idiots seem to think that we are all sufficiently guilable as to be locked into the same dream as they ‘pretend’ (?) to be. When are they going to WAKE UP and bring themselves around to something that resembles conciousness/and or honesty?

Yeap the masters of spin are at it again. Trying their best to distribute FUD to the average Joe on the street.
These copyguarders have yet to figure out that Joe has about had enough. Because of the lack of balanced reporting in media news it is realized that the whole truth isn’t getting out.
In the efforts of erecting legal fences, far more than the petty concerns of the affected industries are being affected. Already there are signs of Joe having enough. Around the world, various political organizations are starting to spring up with the common theme of reinspecting the various world wide and national law changes that have taken place in the interests of protectionism.
More importantly, if it isn’t done, is that a stranglehold is being made on future tech developments. The end results of all the protectionism measures may mean that the locals (where ever in the world that might be seen from) stand a better than usual chance of becoming second best in the technology race to those that ignore it and are unshackled by its restraints. Second best not only means less income for discretionary spending but the likelihood of a poorer overall national income in the terms of GNP. None of these total up to a long term future for the cartels and their associated watchdogs.

The ad is designed to pander to the right-wing xenophobic readers of ‘The Sun’. It’s not how stupid FACT thinks *we* are, it’s the intelligence of the readers of ‘The Sun’.
