iTunes movie downloads
p2p news / p2pnet: It seems Steve Jobs is about to allow punters to download movies over his iPod front-loader, iTunes.
But they’ll be loaded to the gills with the usual Apple C.R.A.P., and they’ll eventually self-destruct, probably, with all that implies.
“While the announcement will undoubtedly be billed as a further extension of iTunes’ dominance in digital media downloads, it represents a coup for the movie industry, which will have succeeded in standing its ground against Apple’s pressures to offer consumers the option of owning movie downloads,” says Think Secret.
Movies will be, “coded with a date stamp that will restrict playback,” says the story, going on:
“It is not known exactly how the coding system will work, but industry experts tell Think Secret that the software would likely either limit the number of playbacks or provide unlimited viewing for a period of time, after which the movie will be “turned off” and no longer available.”
The post doesn’t say how much Apple will expect you to cough up for the privilege of renting, not buying, the stuff people won’t pay to see at the cinemas.
