‘Affordable humanoid robot’
p2p news / p2pnet: Does the idea of an, “autonomous, easily programmable, affordable humanoid robot” able to do the chores appeal to you?
And one running Linux yet?
Then you’ll want to know about Aldebaran Robotics based in Paris, France, because according to Linux Devices, Aldebaran is close to shipping just such a beast.
“Aldebaran says its ‘Nao’ household robot will compete with robotic research prototypes in terms of functionality,” says the story.
“The walking, talking, WiFi-enabled bot will stand 21.6 inches tall, and will feature 23 ‘degrees of freedom’ of motion – three more than the 14-inch tall ‘Choromet’ android announced earlier this week by four Japanese companies. Nao’s extra degrees of freedom appear to come in the form of gripping hands.”
Nao will come with PC software so users can program behavior, emotional expressions, speech synthesizer, and other capabilities, or collect data from its onboard video camera and other sensors.
It’s also Wi-Fi enabled for remote control, says Linux Devices.
Is this so cool that you’d like to be involved?
If you have, “original, pragmatic, or scientific ideas,” get in touch, invites Aldebaran.
