More ‘open source’ DRM
p2pnet.net News:- Open source DRM?
In April Sun Microssystems came up with the DReaM, “An interoperable DRM architecture implementing standardized interfaces and processes for the interoperability of DRM systems,” says Sun. “The DRM InterOPERAbility Framework is independent of specific hardware and operating systems and is not restricted to specific media formats. It enables user-based license provisions as opposed to the situation today where licenses are assigned to devices.”
Now MutableMedia has released version 2 of its OpenIPMP, “a Digital Rights Management program based on open standards,” says Heise Online.
Apparently, the idea is to provide an, “interoperable and easily portable solution for the management of rights to digital media on Windows, Mac OS, Linux, and embedded systems”.
OpenIPMP v2, “The OpenIPMP project aims to provide interoperable DRM software that can be ported to any platform (including Windows, Mac, Linux and embedded platforms),” says Mutable, going on:“Unlike proprietary DRM solutions, OpenIPMP adheres to a variety of open standards, including: OMA (Open Mobile Alliance) v2 DRM specifications; ISMAcryp specifications for MPEG-4 streaming and local playback; and, MPEG’s IPMP specifications for MPEG-2 and MPEG-4.”
