MPAA signs up with porn firm
p2pnet.net News:- Online porn facilitator GUBA, which recently hooked deals with Warner and Sony, says it’s now working with Hollywood’s MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) with something it’s calling ‘Johnny’.
In the UK, a ‘Johnny’ is a euphemism for a rubber contraceptive, and in North America, a John is a prostitute’s customer.
But back to GUBA, it kicks off on the deal with a disingenuous statement worthy of RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) truth adjusters. “Filtering efforts on MPAA titles have so far been successful, and GUBA is committed to continuing and improving on this initiative,” says “copyright friendly” Guba.
“Johnny,” meanwhile, is a “proprietary technology” which, “analyzes video in digitized form and generates a unique fingerprint for each video,” promises GUBA, adding:, “Once Johnny has scanned a video, that video is blocked from illegal file trading or distribution on GUBA’s site. GUBA plans to make Johnny available to other video sharing services to help eliminate copyright infringement on the Web and on Usenet, an electronic bulletin board commonly used for illegal file sharing. Until the implementation of Johnny, copyrighted content on Usenet has been largely unfiltered.”
GUBA should know.
“GUBA archives all the porn from newsgroups,” says Supervert. “Rather than pay for a news account, you pay for a GUBA account and bingo! You have access to all that porn. Good deal!”
To paraphrase Billy Joel, “It’s still DRM to me.”

And news providers have what incentive to implement this?
